Dr Ajith Shanmuganathan, is an accomplished professional with a strong foundation of knowledge and expertise in engineering. With diverse academic and professional qualifications, he is well-equipped to contribute to the Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) in a leadership capacity.

He holds a Doctor of Business Administration degree from the University of Kelaniya, a Master of Technology in Industrial Engineering from the Open University of Sri Lanka, a Master of Business Administration (MBA), a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Diploma in Technology in Electrical Engineering from the University of Moratuwa/Sri Lanka. These qualifications highlight his commitment to continuous learning and his dedication to staying updated with the latest advancements in engineering. As a distinguished member of various professional organisations, Dr Shanmuganathan brings experience and insights. He holds prestigious memberships in the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in the UK as a Fellow Member, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) in the UK as a Corporate Member, and the Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) as a Corporate Member. His recognition as a Chartered Engineer in Sri Lanka and the UK demonstrates his professional standing and expertise.

He is working as the CEO of Lanka Salt Limited and has held key leadership roles in prominent companies, including Jagro (Pvt) Limited and Everest Industrial Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd., Sri Lankan Insurance Corporation Ltd., Ceylon Ambuja Cement (Pvt.) Ltd. and Tokyo Cement Company. In these organisations, he has served as Chief Operating Officer, Head of Operations, and Manager of Engineering. He actively contributes to the engineering community through various roles and responsibilities. He served as the Honorary Secretary of IMechE SL, where he played a pivotal role in promoting and advancing the engineering profession in Sri Lanka. Additionally, he is involved as an International Professional Review volunteer (IPRV) at IMechE, a Fellow Assessor at IET (UK), an International Professional Registration Advisor (IPRA) at IET (UK), and a Professional Review Interviewer at IET (UK). These roles showcase his commitment to professional development and willingness to support and mentor fellow engineers.

Furthermore, Dr Shanmuganathan’s teaching experience as a Visiting Lecturer/Consultant in Electrical Engineering at the Navel Artificer Training Institute (NATI) in the Sri Lanka Navy highlights his dedication to shaping future engineers’ education and skills development. Dr Ajith Shanmuganathan has published research on various topics, including innovation readiness of firms and the impact of the social identity of leadership in the “International Journal of Applied Science and Research” and the “Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies.” His work in the “Singaporean Journal of Business Economics and Management Studies” focuses on green innovation in the refrigeration industry. He has also explored the impact of organisational culture on product innovation in the “International Journal of Advancements in Research and Technology.” Additionally, he presented a case study on the refrigeration industry and green innovation at the DBA Case Study Symposium. These publications demonstrate Dr Shanmuganathan’s expertise and commitment to advancing knowledge in his field.

I am honored to present my candidacy for the upcoming election. As a dedicated and passionate engineer, I am committed to serving the engineering community and contributing to the growth and development of our profession. With over two decades of experience in the field of engineering and Management, I have acquired a wealth of knowledge and expertise that I believe will be valuable in advancing the goals and objectives of the IESL.

If elected, my primary focus will be on promoting the highest standards of engineering excellence and professionalism. I am committed to fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning among our members, while also ensuring the ethical and responsible practice of engineering. Furthermore, I am committed to nurturing and supporting the next generation of engineers. I will work towards providing mentorship and guidance to young engineers, as well as promoting educational and professional development opportunities that will equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in their careers.
