Prof. Dissanayake was a Fulbright Scholar – Columbia University, USA in 2008, Endeavour Fellow – Monash University Australia in 2008 and JASSO Research Fellow – Ehime University, Japan in 2007. He was awarded the Young Scientist Award in 2007 for Excellence in Scientific Research by the National Science and Technology Commission of Sri Lanka. He received the Overseas Prize of the Institution of Civil Engineers, London, UK in 2007 for a paper he published. He was awarded the Australia Alumni Excellence Award in 2012. He has published over 100 journal papers. He has chaired fifteen international conferences. He is a fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka. Presently, he is the Immediate Past Chairman of the Green Building Council of Sri Lanka (GBCSL), Immediate Past President of IESL and VP Chamber of Construction Industries (CCI) and the Chairman and the founder of LEGO, ICB, Lanka AAC and GAP Pvt. Ltd. He will Chair the 16th International Conference on Sustainable Built Environment which is to be held at Earl’s Regency, Kandy Sri Lanka in December 2025 (https://www.kandyconference.org/).

Election Statement as submitted & certified by the candidate

After obtaining my PhD in Structural Engineering in 1998, I started my career as a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Peradeniya. I have been actively participating in activities of Green Building Council (GBCSL), Chamber of Construction Industries (CCI), Engineers Without Borders (EWB) etc, IESL Kadurata Chapter. Further, I served as the Chairman of IESL Civil Engineering Sectional Committee for two sessions (2018/2019 and 2019/2020), Vice President of IESL for two sessions (2020/2021 and 2021/2022), President Elect of the session 2022/2023, President of the session 2023/2024, and Immediate Past President of the session 2024/2025.  I have chaired around 15 International Conferences.

I obtained Corporate Membership in year 2004 and became a Fellow of the IESL in year 2012.

If elected as the Past President, I will:

1. carry out my work according to the By-Laws, rules and procedures of IESL
2. assist the Council to make decisions to uplift the dignity of Members
3. will organize effective programmes for the members of IESL
4. will make sure to bring unity among members, by introducing more avenues to participate in IESL activities.
