Eng. Rukmal Jayasinghe is a Chartered Electrical Engineer and a Fellow member of IESL. He has methodically classified his wealth of experience into three distinct domains: academia, industry, and active engagement in professional organizations. He obtained his BSc (honours) degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Moratuwa (UoM) in 1998. He obtained three postgraduate qualifications: Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from UoM, Master of Arts in Financial Economics from the University of Colombo, and Master of Business Administration from The Open University of Sri Lanka. One of his proudest achievements was obtaining four degrees within 10 years while effectively balancing his academic commitments with organizational commitments. He published research papers both internationally and locally. Also, He is a reviewer at local and international conferences.

During his 25-year career as an Electrical Engineer, one of his most noteworthy achievements was assuming the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Kevilton Electrical Products Pvt Ltd (Capital Maharaja Organization), at the age of 37. At that time, He was the youngest CEO of the Group.

Subsequently, He held the same position in other notable company: Magline Switchboard (Pvt.) Ltd. In the year 2013, He was one of the founding members of establishing his own Organization Minel Lanka Pvt Ltd which operates both locally and internationally. In 2011, He was awarded Engineering Excellence Award from the IES for his outstanding achievements as a Chartered Electrical Engineer.

He was shortlisted by IESL for the prestigious E.O.E. Pereira Award.

He achieved the esteemed titles of Chartered Electrical Engineer from the IESL and Royal Engineering Charter from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in the UK. Furthermore, He holds the distinguished status of Fellow in both the IESL and the IET, UK. Additionally, He proudly holds the designation of International Professional Engineer in Sri Lanka. As a contribution to the country, He served as a member of the Energy Policy Review Committee appointed by the Minister of Power and Energy to review the New Energy Policy for Sri Lanka in 2019.

He made significant contributions to the IET, UK- Sri Lanka Network (SLN) since 1997. He began as a committee member of the Young Member Section and eventually assumed the role of Chairman of the IET-SLN in 2017. During his tenure as Chairman, He achieved two notable milestones for the country.

Firstly, the Sri Lankan network was honored with the prestigious “Network of the Year award” at the South Asian CVC (Communities’ Volunteer Conference). Secondly, IET (SL) successfully launched the first-ever Young Woman Engineer award outside the UK, in collaboration with the Young Professionals (YP) group of lET. Additionally, He spearheaded the launch of the National Strategic Road Map to loT, which received official approval from the government of Sri Lanka. Subsequently, He assumed the role of Sri Lanka representative on the South Asian communities committee of the IET, UK. Also, he is serving as a Professional registration Advisor for IET, UK and was felicitated for his services in 2022 in Bangalore. Furthermore, He was one of the nominees for the South Asian representative for IET, UK.

As an accomplished Practicing Engineer, I strongly believe that our collective expertise can bring about significant positive changes in Sri Lanka. We have the power to influence crucial aspects like creating wealth, generating employment opportunities, developing youth skills, sharing knowledge, and contributing to foreign exchange earnings.

If I get selected as a Representative fellow, I will mainly focus on,

  • Maintaining our relevance for industry, practitioners, academia and society.
  • Delivering the highest level of service and satisfaction, using agile methods, and seeking innovative solutions to add value. My role is to continually improve and adopt best practices for the good of engineering and technology using my experience working with Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), UK.
  • Create IESL as the main Networking Organization for practicing engineers in Sri Lanka.
  • Increase engagement of engineering undergraduates and young engineers with IESL.
  • Maintain and uplift the quality of engineering education in Sri Lanka through accreditation mechanisms.
  • Promotion of STEM education.
  • Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning through CPD programs.
  • Networking and Business Opportunities for membership.
  • Advocacy and Policy Influence.
  • Skills Development and Workforce Enhancement for the partner organizations and   membership.
