Eng. S. Saravanakumaran obtained IESL Professional Qualification (IESL Part I, II, III A, B & C ) equivalent to BSc Eng (Hons) in Civil Engineering l and went on to pursue advanced studies in his field, earning two Master’s degrees: an MSc in Structural Engineering from University of Ruhuna in 2020 and an MSc in Project Management from Asia e University in 2019.

He also holds an LLB (Hons) in Law, a Diploma in Commercial Arbitration, and is currently reading for Attorney-at-Law. He is a Chartered Engineer (MIESL) and a Member of the Ceylon Institute of Builders (MCIOB).

His professional career began in the government service, where he has consistently demonstrated excellence and commitment to infrastructure development in the Northern Province. As a Civil and Structural Engineer, he has led numerous road development and rehabilitation projects, emphasizing quality, safety, and sustainability, even under challenging conditions and resource constraints. His expertise has contributed to strengthening public infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, and improving the lives of communities in the region. Alongside his public service, he provides consultancy services with proper approvals, helping private-sector clients deliver successful engineering projects.

Eng. Saravanakumaran is deeply committed to advancing the engineering profession. He currently served as Secretary of the Northern Provincial Engineers’ Union (2024/25), where he advocates for the welfare and rights of engineers, and as Secretary of the IESL VC Sub- Committee ( Planning Circle)  (2023/24), playing a key role in organizing professional development activities, technical seminars, and forums that promote knowledge sharing and collaboration among engineers. He is an active member of the IESL Northern-Chapter, contributing to its ongoing initiatives and mentoring young engineers entering the field.

Throughout his career, he has received recognition for his dedication, leadership, and technical expertise. He has been honored with awards for academic excellence, research contributions, and project delivery, including several accolades for promoting best practices in structural design and construction dispute resolution. His passion for education and knowledge dissemination is evident through his role as a visiting lecturer and trainer, where he continues to inspire and support aspiring engineers through lectures, workshops, and training sessions.

Eng. Saravanakumaran’s professional journey reflects his unwavering commitment to engineering excellence, continuous learning, and service to the community. His ability to balance technical expertise with strategic thinking and ethical conduct makes him a valued contributor to the profession. He believes in fostering inclusivity, transparency, and professional growth to ensure that engineers across all regions and disciplines have the opportunity to excel and make meaningful contributions to society.

I am honored to offer myself as a candidate for the IESL Council, with a vision of building a stronger, more inclusive Institution that empowers every engineer to achieve their potential. With a career spanning public infrastructure development, consultancy, academia, and professional advocacy, I bring a well-rounded perspective to the challenges and opportunities facing our profession today.

As Secretary of the Northern Provincial Engineers’ Union and the IESL VC Planning Circle, I have worked to promote professional development, improve member engagement, and advocate for policies that strengthen the status of engineers in society. I have actively contributed to organising technical seminars, mentoring programs, and member support initiatives to uplift our community.

If elected, I will continue to represent your voice on the Council, focusing on fostering knowledge sharing, enhancing professional recognition, and ensuring equal opportunities for all engineers, regardless of their region or discipline. I am committed to advancing initiatives that uphold our professional ethics, encourage innovation, and respond effectively to the evolving demands of the engineering landscape.
